Story

Lucas and his sister are my best friends for over 15 years.

Now I want to do everything that I can to help them.

Unexpectedly in Lucas's (36) family life came a dramatic moment.

On their family holiday in Hungary all of a sudden Lucas lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground. The doctors gave the diagnosis, he's had an ischemic brain stroke. Mostly on the left side and on parts of the brainstem as well. Because his condition was extremely bad and he was in coma, he could not be transported to Poland. Family and friends helped to take his boys Kornel (4) and Tobiasz (6) back home so that his wife and sister could be with him. After a week his condition was slightly better and finally he landed in Poland on intensive care but still being in a coma. In the next 3 weeks he started to open his eyes for a very short time and then he was disconnected from the life support machine because he was able to breathe by himself.

As result of the brain damage Lucas could't speak or move the right side of his body is now paralysed and swallowing is so difficult that he receives his food through a nasogastric tube. The boys weren't able to visit their daddy in hospital so his wife and family started recording messages for him. During video playback he had tears in his eyes.

Lucas is aware of his condition now.

Today, after 11 months of neurological rehabilitation he can swallow and enjoy again the taste of food.

He answers YES or NO by nodding or shaking his head. He can move his left leg and hand. And he has a huge smile on his face to everyone who visits him.

The human brain can be unpredictable.

There is only one way to help him, with very long intense rehabilitation for the next few years. His condition is slowly getting better which gives us hope that he can get better if he continues his rehabilitation. Unfortunately the cost of rehabilitation is unbelievable for his family.

Monthly costs of treatment in one of Krakow's (Poland) rehabilitations centre's starts from 20 thousand zloty which is about £4500 / $5500.

The family have throughout their lives been involved in various project and find raising events to themselves assist the poor, needy, sick and unwanted.

And today they need our help.

His wife is waiting to get back her husband, his boys their daddy, his sister her brother and his dad a son!

From the bottom of my heart, thank You to anyone who donates or shares.
