Story
On the afternoon of 22 May 2013, a British Army soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was attacked and killed by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, southeast London.
During an interview on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire Programme, Lee's mum Lyn Rigby said that since Lee's funeral her family have had no support what so ever from the Ministry of Defence. She openly admitted that they are struggling month to month to put food on the table, they have sandwiches on sunday instead of a roast dinner, they have to borrow from extended family, and Lyn also revealed that sometimes she does not eat for the sake of her children.
Lyn Rigby told the Victoria Derbyshire programme only her son's next of kin - his partner - received help, and "the main charities didn't want to know".
She said the recent attacks in London and Manchester had "brought everything back", but she had received no contact from the MoD to "check we're OK".
Ms Rigby told the BBC: "The support we had, was from people we'd never met - the public.
"The Ministry of Defence... barely support people who aren't listed as next of kin. The main charities didn't want to know.
"We had an Army liaison officer for three months after Lee died, but after the funeral we've had no support from them since.
"When Lee lost comrades in Afghanistan, he'd seen mums left by the wayside."
I feel this is awful and it really tore into me to think a family, that had their son taken away from them in the most unimaginable way, have to try and continue life the way they have for the last 4 years. No family should EVER have to go through what they have been through, nor should they have been left without any financial or mental support.
That is why I wish to raise this money
PLEASE DONATE. Thank you.
