Story
S was born in the UK and has lived here all his life. Now that he has turned 10, he has the right to apply for a British citizenship. British citizenship grants a child a secure status with benefits many of us take for granted, such as to access healthcare for free, the ability to travel, vote, access student finance, and more.
We need your help
The fee to register as British, or to apply to register, is £1012 which many, including S, cannot afford. There are no fee waivers or reductions for those who can’t afford to pay. After S applies for British citizenship, he will have to pay another £49 to get a British passport, however we can cover this fee with funds from a former Akwaaba crowdfunder. We have added an additional 5% to allow for the Just Giving processing fee, which brings the total to £1062. Please help us raise the money for S to secure his British passport!
There are lots of other children in the same situation.
Any donations over the target will be used to fund Akwaaba, a Sunday social centre for migrants in Hackney.
