Story

Myself and my brother in-laws Tom and Phil are running the Sutton fun run this coming June to help raise money for the Birmingham Childrens hospital.

This hospital has a lot of meaning to us as a family.

My son Jak was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect at the age of 6 weeks old. This is where there is a hole in the wall that separates the lower two chambers of the heart. He was not able to feed without becoming exhausted and falling asleep. He started losing weight very quickly and started to become weak.

Jak underwent major heart surgery at the age of just 8 weeks old at the Birminghams Childrens Hospital where they closed this hole to allow the blood to flow correctly around the heart.

The care they provided for him was outstanding. Jak was in the Children's hospital for 2 months following his operation, where he had continuous care by the cardiac team. He soon recovered and was able to go home with special milk and medication to take to help him to develop into the boy he is today. Jak is still under the care of the hospital and has regular check-ups with the same consultant he first saw almost 13 years ago.

We can not thank the Birmingham Childrens Hospital enough for all the time and care they put into helping Jak get better.

So in aid of this, we are running the Sutton Fun to help raise money for this truly incredible hospital and the staff who work there.
