I have been lucky to have been selected as one of 36 scouts to represent Clyde Region Scouts on the 2018 Indonesia expedition.

My name is Luke Halpin and I am a 16 year old boy in 5th year at St Ninian's High School. I am an Explorer Scout at Alpha Explorer Unit, and a Young Leader with a scout troop of 30 young boys and girls - in this role, I prepare and deliver a balanced program that is educational and enjoyable on a weekly basis and help to organise and deliver 3-4 weekend camps a year. I have completed my Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards and working towards my Gold Award. I also have achieved my Platinum and Diamond Chief Scout Awards. In addition to this I have over 500 Saltire Volunteering Hours.

In July 2018, the 36 Explorers and 5 adult leaders will embark on this project to Sumatra, Indonesia, and I need to raise £3000 to fund this once in a lifetime opportunity.

During my time in Indonesia I will be helping to rebuild an orphanage and teaching the young children of the orphanage. We will also be helping at a elephant sanctuary to both rebuild the elephant enclosures and complete renovations of the ranger station, which is no longer fit for purpose.

From this, I hope to gain my Queens Scout Award, which is the highest award in scouting, as well as an experience that I will then be able to share with my scout group and the other young people I work with in my volunteering.
