Story

Starting on the 1st of April I will be running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours (48 miles total) - otherwise known as the "4 x 4 x 48 challenge".

Now why on earth would I do such a thing, you ask?!

I am raising money to get solar panels for Saltwood School. I am really keen to try to help the school create a sustainable power source for a positive environmental impact. The solar panels will also provide learning opportunities for the children in sustainable energy and the science behind the way the panels work. Saltwood School would see a reduction in energy bills, allowing the money saved to be used to fund other crucial projects for the children.

On another note the solar panels may also help spark an initial curiosity and interest among the children to potentially take a deeper dive into STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), where we are unfortunately still seeing a skills gap in the UK.

I have set a target of £500-£1,000 and all money raised will be donated directly to the charity FoSS (Friends of Saltwood School). FoSS will manage the purchase, installation and maintenance of the panels for the school.

Many thanks for any amount no matter how big or small that you may be able to donate. In case a monetary contribution might not be possible for you at this time, simply sharing this cause on social media, or just spreading the message by word of mouth to a friend or colleague, would also be really helpful and very much appreciated.

I will be running the 4 x 4 x 48 in and around Saltwood and Hythe and you can read a bit more about the origins of the challenge here.

Now that you know a bit more about what it's all about, why not get involved in the challenge? If you are interested in joining me for some or all of the run, feel free to pop by for as many or as few of the stints as you would like. The timings for the stints are below, and if you drop me an email at luke@sleepinggiantmedia.co.uk I can add you to a WhatsApp group to confirm the location for each. They will generally be in the Hythe/Saltwood area, with the nighttime ones being a road loop to start and finish at my house should you want to camp out in the garden.
