Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
My name is Luke, I'm 30 years old, and up until September 2016 I was a fit and healthy guy.
But that changed when I was given a devastating diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. I have subsequently been diagnosed with three brain tumours and legions on my pelvis and spine. As a result of the stereotactic radiosurgery on my brain and the swelling caused by the treatment, I have had two brain seizures which were unexpected, and the consequences of which have been very hard to deal with.
Whilst occasionally the side effects of the treatments have been tough, the thing I've struggled with the most, both physically and mentally, is the side effects as a result of the steroids I've had to take to help prevent any further seizures. These have put a huge dent in my self-esteem, and have made doing the things that I love a lot more difficult.
However, despite the struggles and setbacks, I've never wanted this diagnosis to define who I am, and so I've made it my mission to make a positive difference. With the unwavering support of family and friends, as well as from many people around the world, I've put my efforts into the #teamHarding #togetherstronger campaign, with the aim of raising awareness of and raising money for the fight against this indiscriminate disease. To date, I've raised in excess of £20,000. These funds have gone towards local charities and causes.
Almost a year on from my diagnosis, and as a big "f**k you" to cancer, I've decided to take on two challenges and hopefully raise more money in the process.
First up, starting on 6th August 2017 and on subsequent weekends, I'm planning to walk all 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Poppit Sands to Amroth. All company welcome!
And then, on 1st October 2017, I've signed up to do the Cardiff Half Marathon. If I can get to the finish line in one piece that'll be achievement enough!
All money raised will be donated to Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital.
