Story

Luton Jets Sports Organisation is a dynamic community initiative dedicated to empowering vulnerable youth in Luton’s most deprived areas—Lewsey Farm, Marsh Farm, and Farley Hill—through inclusive sports and mentoring programs. Founded by Malik Griffith-Johnson, Luton Jets targets children and young people facing challenges such as poverty, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and risk of school exclusion, offering them pathways to personal growth, physical health, and social mobility.
With a mission to tackle inactivity, exclusion, and limited opportunities, Luton Jets provides over 10 hours of weekly football and basketball sessions, fostering discipline, teamwork, and resilience. The organisation supports diverse groups, including 14.7% of Luton pupils with SEND and 30% eligible for Pupil Premium, with 80% of participants reporting stronger social bonds and improved mental health by 20-30% (NHS, 2023). Through talent identification, 15% of players annually secure sports academy placements, while volunteer pathways empower youth to become peer mentors and community leaders.
Aligned with Luton Council’s goals to reduce poverty and inequality, Luton Jets addresses the borough’s high crime rates (89 crimes per 1,000 people in 2023), low educational attainment, and health disparities, including a 42.5% child obesity rate. By offering low-cost, accessible programs and reinvesting in grassroots initiatives, Luton Jets creates safe, structured spaces that break cycles of deprivation and build brighter futures. Join us in transforming lives through sport and mentorship.
