Story

On Tuesday November 3rd, approx. 07:40am myself and other prison officers were first on scene to a horrific car accident near HMP Lindholme. Two of our own officers from HMP Moorland were involved suffering terrible and life changing injuries as well as two other vehicles, one of which held a mum and her three young children. I was one of a handful of officers who ran towards the accident to try and help. When I approached the car which appeared to be crushed down one side, I could see a lady sat in the front very much in shock. Her 12yr old son laying with his head on her shoulder and not in a very good way. In the back were two very young boys around 7 and 8. One boy was able to get clear of the car and was helped into another car to stay warm. The other had his leg crushed between the seat and the car door, he was unable to move. I jumped into the car and stayed with that little boy while emergency crews turned up to help them. The lady was able to get out the car with help, I have learnt since that she had suffered a broken neck. I stayed in the crushed up car while the air ambulance attended the 12yr old boy who suffered the most horrific injuries. The fire brigade arrived and proceeded to cut the car open to get him out, it was terrifying. He was very quickly taken & flown to hospital in a life threatening condition. His younger brother stayed trapped in the car with me holding on to him, he was so frightened. With his little head all cut and leg still stuck, he kept telling me he had glass stuck in his foot and it was hurting. He was so unbelievable brave and spent a lot of time showing me games he had on his phone and telling me about school. Eventually being cut free himself by the fire brigade and taken to hospital with his mum. This awful event has caused so much trauma for all those involved. I am here to ask for donations to support this family through unimaginable pain. The 12yr old boy as I understand is still in ICU and alongside substantial internal injuries also suffered a fractured skull, broken neck and broken pelvis. As far as we know he is recovering thanks to the amazing efforts of the emergency services.

On behalf of myself, the other officers at the scene, the many other officers that are wanting to contribute and the public in the wider community. We hope that this can help in some way. We will all be thinking of you and your family this Christmas. All our love. Prison Officer L. Woodward
