I've raised £1500 to help fund 24 hour access automated external defibrillators in Lyme Regis.

The objective of Lyme Heartbeat is to increase the provision of 24-hour access defibrillators right across Lyme Regis and surrounding areas as the availability of defibrillators can help to save lives. We aim to increase awareness within the local community of how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator device in order to save a life in the event of a cardiac arrest.
Our previous fundraising has enabled the purchase and installation of three units in Lyme Regis, one at the end of the Cobb, one in the vicinity of Monmouth beach and one at the rear of the Marine Theatre. We are also responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the defibrillator situated outside the Harbour Master's office on the Cobb. We have previously funded the installation of devices in Charmouth, West Bay and Seaton.
We are now seeking to to raise enough funds for the installation of an additional defibrillator unit in the town while supporting the upkeep and maintenance of our existing units. A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, young or old, at any time. The use of a defibrillator and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within the first few minutes can improve the chances of the patient surviving significantly. According to the South Western Ambulance Service, more than 3,600 people are resuscitated by ambulance staff every year in the South West because they suffer a pre-hospital cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes once in cardiac arrest a person's chances of survival are reduced by 10%. It is therefore recommended for a defibrillator to be within a 4-5 minute walk of every location. Without doubt increased availability of defibrillators would improve cardiac arrest survival rates and Lyme Heartbeat are determined to make Lyme Regis a heart safe town.
