Story
This year myself and 8 other Lyreco employees will be looking to complete the well know 'National Three Peaks Challenge' within 24 hours.
This will be taking place over the weekend 11th / 12th September 2021
Chris Barlow / Steve Jarvis / Jemma Gojka / Jake Jones / Mollie Hughes / Manel Roura / Fran Hayward / Jon Goodway will all be participating.
We will look to climb the Uk's 3 largest peaks, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon one after the other and completing the whole event with 24 hours. This is a total walking distance of 23 miles and a total ascent 3064 metres (10,052ft) and a total driving distance 462 miles. The weather can be totally unpredictable making the event even more difficult than it already is.
Of course we will not just be doing this event for fun, but also looking to raise money towards two charities, Lyreco for Education & Mind.
Lyreco for Education started in 2008 and the programme raises funds to give children living in poor conditions better access to education.
So far we have raised money for 6 different countries, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Brazil, Togo, Madagascar.
For 2019 through till 2022 Lyreco will be raising funds for Cambodia. Access here to secondary education remains a challenge. We will look to support 26 Schools. Our objective - Equal access to quality education, we will build a boarding house to support 60 scholarships, 92 teachers will be trained in scientific and digital education, promote equal access for girls and boys, develop hygiene and sanitation infrastructure.
The final goal for each project is to maintain our actions on a lifelong perspective, a local steering committee, with teachers, heads of the village and parents, is set up in each village and thus they are responsible of their own education project.
Our second nominated charity will be 'Mind for better mental health'
In 2020/2021 Lyreco are focusing on better mental health and wellbeing for all employees. So naturally this felt like the right charity to support.
Mental health problems affect around one in four people in Britain, affecting the way you think, feel and behave and range from common mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, to more rare problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. A mental health problem can feel just as bad, or worse, as any other physical illness - only you cannot see it.
Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problems. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
Their goal is to support people likely to develop mental health problems and to stay well. Empower people who experience a mental health problem to make informed choices about how they live and recover. They look to ensure people get the right services and support at the right time to help their recovery and enable them to live with their mental health problem.
So now you know what we are doing and why we are doing this, please show your support any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
