Watchorn Church in Alfreton have, as our overseas mission, have a connection with Howrah Christian School, located in the middle of the largest slum in Kolkata. Our long term, and continuing aim is to support the school in two major ways-

1. To bring knowledge of Christianity to pupils at the school.

2. To enable the school to teach the children the English language- This is the only way that children can get decent employment when they leave school. Without this, boys will be in dead end jobs and the “lucky” girls fall into terrible marriages. Many of the “UNLUCKY” ones fall into prostitution.

We have carried out many fundraising ventures over the years and small teams visit regularly. Our latest venture involves Mark Skelton who is entering the Dovedale Dipper- a very difficult task over 26 miles. This will test Mark to the limit, and EVERY PENNY he raises goes to the school.
