Story

I'm raising £4,000 for the Machynlleth fireworks and lantern procession.

My name is Zoe and I've been running the lantern procession since 2011. I love it dearly as I know the whole community do, but it is time to say goodbye.

This will be the last event. I just don't have the capacity anymore. We have had so many crew and volunteers over the years and I want to thank them and the community for it's support by sending the event out with a bang. No wristbands or tickets, just pay what you can so that everyone can be there and show the love.

The procession has always been free and this year as the last one I want to make everything else pay as you are able. Now this is a bit of a risk for me because as a community group, there is no business, charity or public body behind the event. If this doesn't raise the money, well... I just hope it does!!! The good news is that if everyone who normally pays to come to the fireworks donates what they would normally pay and those who donate normally donate, we would almost make the target. So it just needs those of you who love it and appreciate it to make a donation. Tickets have been £3 for children and £7 for adults in the past and we normally bring in around £3500. The fireworks will cost £4000 this year.

Lantern makers can donate at workshops which will be happening throughout town over half term week and there will be buckets on the night, but please if you are reading this, support it in advance by donating now!

I will be offering training and mentoring to some young people in town who I hope with reinvent and reimagine the event for the future. Any money raise over the costs will go to local organisations who will help young people create community events in the future.

It's been an absolute privilege to run this event for so long and I want to thank again very single bucket shaker, lantern maker and hi-vis wearer. Big love x
