Story
MAD 4 Waves are a crew of four close mates, who are coming together to battle one of the toughest challenges on Earth: Rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. The boys will be taking part in the 2018 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge - an arduous 5 500 km transatlantic row from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean. We will be rowing 2 hours on, 2 hours off, non-stop, day and night until we reach the finish (around 40-60 days later)! More people have summited Everest, journeyed the North Pole or ventured into space than have rowed across the Atlantic! Each rower will burn over 6500 kcal per day and lose about 20% of his body weight. Cole, Grant, Lee and Matthew all attended school at Bishops Diocesan College and are currently in their third year of studies at the University of Cape Town. The boys are also stalwart rowers with a great love for the sport. Whilst there can be no comparison between the prodigious scale of rowing an ocean and racing down a 2km course, the boys are no strangers to pushing themselves both physically and mentally.
Further driving their passion for rowing across the Atlantic, is the desire to make a difference in the world. The boys have partnered with MAD Leadership Foundation and will be raising funds in an effort to help transform the youth of South Africa into the future leaders of tomorrow whilst also funding a quality school education for an aspiring child.
