Story
Hello, my name is Maddie and on the 25th July i will be rowing alone on a machine for 8 hours and 46 minutes. This is all in aid of the Black Lives Matter charity so all donations will go straight to them. My aim is to raise as much money as possible for them so that they can bring justice to a world issue that is very close to my heart.
If you are not exactly sure what they do and why they need our help, heres a link to their website. I will also add abit about them but please, please have a little read : https://blacklivesmatter.com/whatmatters/
“#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.”
Why this date and time ?
I have decided to do this row on the 25th July because this will be the 2 month anniversary of George Floyd‘s death where he was murdered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States by Derek Chauvin (a police officer) with 3 other officers on side. I also got the time from this event as Derek Chauvin had his knee on George Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes 46 second whilst he cried out to them, telling them he couldn’t breath.
How you can get involved aswell as donations -
To everyone who would like to join in please do !!! You don‘t have to do hours worth of work. Any support you can give is greatly recieved, so if you can only do 5 minutes then please do. You also DON’T have to row. You can bike, run or anything you can think of, please if you can, get involved.
I understand these are uncertain times but every little bit you can donate really does help. Please , please, please if you can, donate to this amazing cause and help everyone see change and justice.
