Story

Street Child 121 million children are not being given the chance to go to school. Millions more are in school but failing to learn. Street Child are building schools, training teachers and supporting the most vulnerable children in the world to go to school. To date, they have helped over 8,500 children to go to school in Liberia, including helping 1,500 Ebola-impacted children following the crisis.

I care about this cause, because I am a teacher and I am passionate about improving life opportunities through education. I also believe in sustainable humanitarian projects that are rooted within their local communities. Prior to teaching, I worked as a Learning Consultant for Shakespeare's Globe, and I have experience training teachers in practical approaches to literacy to engage students and excite their imagination.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Education, almost 3,500 students started the new school year at schools run by Street Child. The aim is to improve literacy and numeracy across the board, as well as to increase general enrollment and attendance. The initiative is part of the Partnership Schools for Liberia (PSL) project.

In August, I plan to travel to Liberia to support Street Child's work improving education quality in rural schools. To exchange knowledge and experiences with local teachers and to mentor teachers, to help build confidence and teaching skills and to engage students in the classroom. Through collaboration, I will also gain a new perspective on teaching in different settings, which will benefit my pupils back home.

I hope you will be able to support me and Street Child to improve education and help more children to go to school.
