This year I will be running in and around Birmingham to raise money for the Magic of Milly Foundation, which raises money for the Birmingham Children's Hospital in memory of Milly Jane Hill.
Milly was born with a very rare condition, which meant she was a
very individual child in more ways than one. Milly had cardiac
abnormalities along with other difficulties, which resulted in her
spending a lot of time in hospital. Milly didn't let her condition
bother her and she lived life to the full. She went on holiday, went
donkey riding and spent a lot of time shopping with her Mum and
Dad.
All of Milly’s problems could be fixed but sadly on 4th March 2015
she lost her fight for life following cardiac surgery. This outcome
was not expected and left all those around her heart broken.
“The Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a place like no other," says Milly's mum, Emma. "As a
parent you’d never want to find yourself there but the treatment
that Milly received during the first fifteen months of her life was
outstanding.
When you lose your only child it's hard to find a way of moving
forward with your life. When you have watched your child quite
literally fighting for their life it's hard to live with that. Life without
Milly will never be the same but I hope that by raising money for
the place that gave us two precious years with her will ensure that
Milly is still part of my life each and every day.”
I never had the chance to meet Milly, but I hope that taking in part in five different runs across brum - The Birmingham Run 5k and the Great Birminghm 10k in April; the Great Midland Fun Run in June; the Birmingham and Black Country 1/2 Marathon in July and the Birmingham International Marathon in October, I can do my part to ensure her memory lives on. Please give what you can and help . the great work the Children's Hospital does continue.
