Over a year ago now, my wife and best friend became very unwell mentally and physically. Prior to becoming unwell, Mags assisted the local authority escorting children with special needs to and from school. Mags has worked with rescue horses over the past 7 years. Caring and supporting for her friends in our county, always willing to lend a hand and give anyone help she could offer. Mags has always put others before herself.

Sadly now Mags has lost her ability to walk efficiently, using a wheelchair to get around now. She suffers from constant abdominal and back pain, require opiate medicine to control her pain. Limiting her quality of life severely.

Mags has had to give up her love and passion of horses. Mags needs full support with all activities of daily living now, I share my bedroom with a commode now. There is no formal diagnosis as of yet, there are ‘masses’, hernias and diverticulum throughout her whole gastric systems. We are awaiting a second opinion from South Wales.

But nobody knows why my wife has become so physically and mentally impaired in 12 months. The DVLA have revoked her driving license now, she has no means of being independent which is creating more depressive paranoid thoughts for her.

I have been on long term sickness myself caring for Mag’s needs. Luckily I am actually a fully qualified nurse, to be honest caring for Mags over the past 11months has been much harder than any hospital ward shift work I did. After 7 hours I could go home and relax, caring for Mags has been 24/7 and I am feeling very burnt out. Our children struggle to deal with Mag’s complete personality and behaviour change, they don’t engage with her very often now. Mags can be very aggressive and angry towards everyone because of her current health state, but she does not mean this and has no control over it.

I am now heading to zero pay, we have survived on half pay for six months, But we have survived. PIP assessors finally agreed after going to appeal court that Mags does indeed require enhanced care and mobility. That only took 5 months of fighting for, and major stress and demoralisation for Mags. .

We are budgeting best we can, to try to survive. I do plan to return to work in a less managerial role and a complete change of my nurse banding and hours, meaning a huge reduction in wages coming into our home, but it gives me more leeway in managing Mag’s care.

What I am doing this just giving page for is a Holiday, Mags continues to deteriorate mentally and physically, and we realised that we have never actually been on a proper holiday in 10 years, with myself working and Mags working. Any holiday time we took, we always used that time to visit family in Scotland. I am asking for donations for Mags so that she can have the best most wonderful holiday she can before she deteriorates so much that she is unable appreciate a wonderful holiday. I want to be able give Mags a dream holiday that she truly deserves. Thank you for reading this just giving page. I’ve asked for £1500 which I know is a lot, but Mags deserves a dream Holiday. I love Mags, my wife, my best friend and my soul mate. After 12months she has literally been trapped at home, staring at 4 walls. Mags tries to be independent.... hmmm well more stubborn than independent, and has fell several times trying to do Things for herself, when she shouldn’t.
