Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page for BAHASI.
BAHASI, the Bangwe HIV/Aids self-help initiative, is an NGO established in 2004, dedicated to improving the welfare of individuals affected by HIV/Aids. We currently house and feed over 40 children, as well as running various support groups for the community. These include a woman's empowerment group, youth development club, free pre-school and a home-based care program.
We are in need of a maize milling machine to effectively and sustainably provide food for the children at BAHASI. It would also provide the surrounding community with affordable access to the machine, giving BAHASI a small income to put towards some of our projects. These projects include the completion of our girls’ hostel, meaning the girls at BAHASI have a safe and suitable environment to stay in; teachers wages for the fantastic women who teach pre-school and standard 1 and 2 at BAHASI; and the continuation of our support of the wider community.
Travel Malawi generously donates 12 bags of maize to BAHASI every month, although as the children consume one bag every two days this is not enough. We currently rely on a maize milling machine 20 minutes away to mill this maize, which is K 3,000 per bag. With this extra cost on top of not having enough maize, we struggle to provide our children with meals. This is why we urgently need a maize milling machine.
Donating towards this cause would provide the children at BAHASI with a reliable source of food every day and would benefit the community greatly.
