The idea of a Moon Garden was born in response to the needs of many, on many levels;
*to create within festivals a safe mobile haven for women and girls, a beautiful place of peace for connection with nature and each other.
* to increase awareness and availability of environmentally harmless sanitary solutions that literally do not cost the earth!
Ocean Conservancy volunteers collected 27,938 used tampons and applicators on our world’s beaches on a single day. A single reusable mooncup or cotton washable pads could solve this terrible waste of our precious limited resources as the effects of a throwaway society and climate change become a reality for us and our children. Our Moon Garden would host a small stall providing and teaching of other options and how to work with nature, not against it.
* the need for a space where we can BE, and let down our guard knowing we will not be subjected to unwanted attention because we are without company. It is sad to say this but in a world where the reality of statistics are stacked against our safety, sometimes there needs to be a place to go at public events where there is a boundary created for us. Within this space we do not have to find new strength or energy reserves to say 'no' - there is no pressure to deflect.
* a structure that is movable so that we have shelter and can host showings of educational documentaries and films that highlight positive, self sustainable solutions to environmental and social issues.
* fostering creativity and connection this space can also be used to host craft and self empowerment workshops or meditations

As two single parents we know how hard it can be to find the time or space to be submersed in creativity or connect deeply with ourselves even in a calm and nurturing atmosphere like we want to create, so the plan is to extend this over time to include a creche with registered childminders next to the women's space so that mothers and children alike can have their needs met.
