Story

Specifically, we wish to transform the sports pitches we acquired as part of our site, which have actually been condemned by Leeds City Council because of their dangerous condition, into smart and precious resources for a community desperate for a safe space to let off steam

The area is highly built up with rows of high rise flats which tower over our new centre. The ward in which our new buildings is located is a top 1% most deprived ward nationally. Local people, especially the young, need a safe and healthy outlet for their energies. Unfortunately, however, our ward is well within the top 1% most deprived in terms of living environment.

We conducted a community consultation (June 2016), interviewing 23 local young people, parents and teachers. All three groups were united in describing local sports facilities as very poor and the need for facilities as very great. Respondents were clear that a safe sports area would deliver improved health and would reduce anti-social behaviour. The space would be very much appreciated and very well used.
