Story

One of Malcolm’s great passions was football and as he would say “Saturdays are for football” so for over 40 years he played, managed and helped to run Cuckfield Town FC and heaven forbid their game was called off, he was trawling the paper to find a game to go and watch somewhere in Mid Sussex!

When Matt and Tom were old enough to play football for Cuckfield Cosmos and Southdown Rovers, he found himself in a different role as a parent on the touchline supporting the boys although inevitably, he was roped into various roles over the years as assistant manager, coach, linesman and even referee. So now “Sundays were for football too”!

Along the way there have been many highlights with cup wins, league championships, nights out and tours but more importantly lifelong friendships.

It is a fitting tribute that the charity football match will be played between Southdown and Cuckfield, as both clubs hold special places in the hearts of Malcolm, Matt, Tom and myself. This will take place on Sunday 1st May 2022 at Burgess Hill Town FC kick off 2pm.

We have decided to raise money for 2 local charities: St Peter and St James Hospice and The Sussex Cancer Fund.

We are so grateful to the Hospice for their kindness, care and compassion during Malcolm’s final hours.

Also, to The Sussex Cancer Fund who work with the NHS to create new and improved facilities to provide the best possible cancer care in Sussex particularly The Sussex Cancer Centre where Malcolm spent a lot of time during his battle with Brain Cancer.

Malcolm was a true legend and I know he touched the hearts of so many people not only at Southdown and Cuckfield but throughout the wider footballing community too. He will be sorely missed.

RIP Malc xx

You were, you are and you always will be forever in our hearts 💙
