Story

We’re making a difference - and now it’s time to scale up even more!

We're raising money towards some land for the women to grow their own produce on.

We all want to make a difference in the world and support charitable causes. But how often do you actually see tangible progress, a measurable, physical, defined difference in what you contribute to? We do!

I've never seen discrimination on a bigger scale than what the Women & Children With Albinism In Uganda are facing on a daily basis. I met these women and children in Uganda last year on a visit and they have since become very close to my heart.

These women's background and stories are shocking, terrifying and utterly disgraceful.

The women have been raped, hurt and ostracised. Some have been killed. Some of their relatives have been dismembered and sold off in pieces. As lucky charms. By their father.

There's belief that raping a girl with albinism can cure HIV/AIDS.

They can't go to school. No one will employ them. Doctors won't touch them.

Can you even begin to imagine...?

Only since last year when the women started their soap production with the support from business mentor Monica Norley from the UK, their production has soared and they're reaching people with their beautiful products all over the world.

This is life changing, not only for the women now earning a regular salary, but also for the image of Albinism in Africa.

For their mission to reach even further, they're now looking to buy some land next to their production base.

The new land will give the women an opportunity to be more self sufficient and grow their own produce, for food, for protection but also for the Mama Mzungu products.

The land will give them:

• Fruit and Vegetables for eating

• Soap ingredients such as peppermint, turmeric, cinnamon and pepper

• Banana leaves for crafts to sel

• Space for more housing

• Ownership of land = raised status in the village

Mama Mzungu is not just changing the life for one group of women. They're changing the view of a stigma from the inside, a stigma so deeply rooted in African culture that it’s like getting blood from a rock to try and get to the core of it. But they’re doing it. Step by step.

Your donations will go towards:

• THE COST OF THE STRIP OF LAND NEXT TO THE PRODUCTION UNIT = GBP £10,000

Thanks to this land, they will be able to raise both the quality and the amount of soap they can produce. They will be able to grow their own produce rather than buying wholesale from someone else.

By being independent, fully capable and productive business women, they are changing their own image. And nothing is more important than changing the lives of women and children to the better by using their own abilities.

Supporting Women & Children With Albinism In Uganda supports vulnerable young girls and women.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATION AND THE SUPPORT OF MAMA MZUNGU! 🌟
