HELP MAMA FLO FEED KIDS FOR FREE THROUGH THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS // Local legend Mama Flo is famous across Manchester for her authentic Jamaican food at her namesake Caribbean takeaway on the A6. She’s a hero in her community and has one of the biggest hearts we know.

She recently announced that she’ll feed kids for free throughout the school Summer holidays. Any child in need of a meal can go to Mama Flo's in Great Moor, Stockport, and choose a meal from BBQ or fried chicken, nuggets, and dumplings - all served with the option of chips, rice and peas or plain boiled rice and sauces. Snacks, drinks, and treats are available as well.

Mama Flo has a long history of helping others when times are hard, running free school meals for kids during the pandemic. She has an established record of supporting those in need in her community and helping anyone in need of a meal, although she modestly says: “I am only trying to help and support at a time when things are so hard on everyone.”

We went down to see how she was getting on and demand is high in the first week of running the meals. Her doors are open to any child in need of a meal from anywhere across Greater Manchester and she’s had kids visit from the local community and all over Stockport – some cycling from Heaton Moor for a filling meal of fried chicken, dumplings, rice, and peas.

Her loyal customer base knows well of her big-hearted gestures, and frequently leave tips. Since announcing the scheme, some regulars and other local businesses have also donated food and treats for the kids: “I want to take this opportunity also to thank all my loyal customers - every time my customers leave me a tip it doesn’t go to waste - I make sure I save every penny, and this is how am trying to help in these difficult times.”

We’ve taken Mama Flo’s wisdom to heart: “My motto is please share be kind to one another and this world will be a better place.” We know this kind-hearted endeavour is already leaving her seriously out of pocket and we want to help, so we’ve set up this Just Giving fundraiser to contribute to the costs.
