I am Sarah, an A&E Doctor in London, and co-founder the Mandali School Project. Earlier this year, I spent 5 months travelling in Nepal, arriving 8 months after the horrifying earthquakes of 2015, that killed almost 9,000 people and injured over 22,000.

I was shocked to find there is still limited electricity, water, housing and food is hard work to obtain. Yet, amidst all of tragedy and destruction I was constantly treated like family without ever being asked for anything in return - truly being humbled by the people’s generosity.

While traveling in the Gorkha District we stayed in Deurali village, and this is where we found the Mandali School which is a primary school with 93 children aged between 4 - 9. We were shocked at the state of the building.The poverty was stark, some children were without shoes and almost all showed signs of malnourishment.

I wanted to help give something back to this community and built a relationship with the Mandali School headmaster, so we could help. The project was born, with the clear aim of re-building 3 classrooms.

SO HOW DO YOU REBUILD A SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY WITH ONLY 7500 BRICKS?

I am working alongside an amazing team of volunteers helping to support this project and will be guided by Build up Nepal.
Our vision is to buy an earth brick machine, sponsor employment and training of local workers and use local materials while building the school. This will then be donated to the village to help rebuild the community.
