In August this year, islam,a young, enthusiastic young man, had an horrific motorcycle accident. It was not his fault and the driver was prosecuted. However, once Islam was taken to hospital, he was left for 24hrs with no pain relief before a very basic and temporary operation was performed to put him back together. His jaw was shattered into pieces, his collar bone and arm were broken and he lost teeth. The operation, had it been performed in another hospital,should have been an end to his suffering. Unfortunately, all it has done is prolong his recovery. After inserting plastic style plates into his chin he has been left with a crooked jaw. He is unable to eat solid food and cannot close his teeth together, an essential for biting and chewing. As a result of his jaw misalignment his speech has suffered. He has been told that this can all be repaired at his own expense. This is an impossibility for him. If the operation is not carried out within 6 months then he will have to live his life like this. Anyone who knows Islam will agree that,although sometimes a pain in the bum, he was a confident, happy, fun loving guy who loved life. I was shocked to see the person he has become. His confidence has disappeared, his lust for life is gone,his cheeky sparkle has died.Islam said himself that he is angry that he wasn't allowed to die. This is not an appeal for his pretty face to be returned, but for him to be able to live a normal life. One where he can eat with friends, rather than hiding away with soup and one where he can look at others and talk without hiding himself. To live and work in turkish tourism, this is an essential.
