I have been a Consultant Maxillofacial / Head & Neck Surgeon for 8 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of serving Cancer patients in Scotland. Although sometimes we don't feel it, we really are very fortunate to live in the modern world with access to state of the art healthcare. But, for some countries, healthcare either doesn't exist or is unaffordable to the vast majority of the population. As a result, countless people suffer and die from “diseases of poverty” that can easily be cured.

I was blessed with the opportunity to serve with Mercy Ships in Sierra Leone in Oct 2023. This was my first humanitarian mission with them and the experience was life changing for both me & the patients. I participated in >40 life changing, life saving operations in 5 weeks. In the process, I realised, I needed to do this work as much as the patient’s needed me for my skills. The pathologies were the most extreme and the work was challenging yet purposeful & impactful and the most rewarding work I have done in my career.

Mercy Ships deploy hospital ships to some of the poorest countries in the world, delivering vital, free healthcare to people in desperate need.

As a Volunteer, I will take no salary and will go in my own time to serve on board. I will have to fund the crew fees, insurance, flights ✈️, vaccines, transportation to and from the ship, and personal expenses.

Your support & donations will make it possible for me to take part in this life changing experience for many, many patients & for me. Your donations will cover the expenses for the mission and any donations over and above this will be donated directly to Mercy ships for supplies and equipment on board.
