Story

Litter on our streets and pavements is a constant concern. Both the City and Gedling Borough Council do a good job, despite the budget constraints. Voluntary and Community Groups have an important role to play, not only in supporting our local authorities but also establishing a sense of public pride in our area.

Over the past year we have established a litter picking project that concentrated on a few specific areas. A small team of volunteers have cleared these areas on a regular basis. People have seen the difference. Whilst this has been well supported, there are clearly many other people who would prefer to get together as a group, and to attend Community Litter Picks.

With this in mind, Mapperley People are proposing to raise funds and purchase equipment for use by residents and groups who wish to get involved. Thanks to Haywood Road Community Association, this will be stored in a secure container within the curtilage of the premises on Haywood Road.

We hope to purchase equipment for 20 people. This will include litter pickers, hi-vis waistcoats, buckets and gloves.

The estimated total cost for this including the storage container is £615

We have costed this using a reputable supplier (used by local authorities) Helping Hand Environmental and using a local clothing supplier HSL Direct for the waistcoats.
