Hello!

I am Pastor Grace Akite Sempa, Pastoring at Light and Glory Church in Makindye, Kampala and we also opened a church in Ngai trading Centre. I am the Director of GLR Maratin Nursery and Primary School in Te Owak Ngai, Oyam District in northern Uganda. GLR stands for Grace Like Rain; Maratin is in Luo which means love a child. The school caters for all the children especially those with disadvantaged backgrounds. We have orphans, the financially less privileged, vulnerable children. This area does not have a nearby educational facility which results into young children walking long distances or totally not going to school, so we have brought education closer to offer them formal education. Te Owak is one of the many villages which were displaced during the Lord Resistance army (LRA) war in Northern Uganda and the families were living in camps. Now that they have been resettled they need support and helping hands and good education for the children if they are to have a bright future. The school offers the needed quality education and ensures that pupils are given opportunities to discover and attain their academic potential and other talents for a bright future. In addition to the school curriculum the pupils are facilitated to acquire social skills and knowledge that will enhance their real life success factor.

By donating to GLR Maratin Nursery and Primary School, you will be helping us to buy desks for our pupils. As you can see, we have none at the moment and we would love for all of our children to be able to sit comfortably while learning. It may sound basic, but having a desk will help a child to be able to concentrate and work more efficiently rather than being hunched over and trying to write on their laps.
