Story

I am running the Cotswold 24 hour endurance event which starts at 12pm on 4th of August and finishes at 12pm on Sunday the 5th. I am tackling this event to help raise funds for my friends to cover the cost of much needed physio and other treatments for their son William.

William was born in 2016 and was diagnosed in June 2017 at 7 months old with a neuro-genetic condition called Angelman syndrome. This is a chromosome deletion (impairment for some) which leaves him facing a life of therapy to learn to walk, even just sit properly and communicate. He has, amongst other things, ataxia (movement disorder), dysphagia (difficulty co-ordinating swallowing), a slow brain wave pattern (encetholopathy), severe complex life threatening epilepsy that puts him in hospital every couple of weeks and even intensive care on life support, laryngomalacia and low muscle tone everywhere leaving him with breathing and oxygen issues and general issues doing things we take for granted.

I have the utmost respect for William's parents, Andrew & Emma, they show such incredible resilience and strength always putting on a brave face despite the daily difficulties they face. William's condition means that he faces lifelong therapy and will need specialist equipment to assist him as well as possible home adaptations.

This run is going to be difficult and I will no doubt go through some dark times but it will only be a fraction of what Andrew & Emma go through except they do it with a smile on their faces. I am aiming to run 100 miles (more if i can) so please get behind me to help raise as much as possible for William - #100milesforWilliam

Thanks

Marc
