    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

I am running the Cotswold 24 hour endurance event which starts at 12pm on 4th of August and finishes at 12pm on Sunday the 5th. I am tackling this event to help raise funds for my friends to cover the cost of much needed physio and other treatments for their son William.

William was born in 2016 and was diagnosed in June 2017 at 7 months old with a neuro-genetic condition called Angelman syndrome. This is a chromosome deletion (impairment for some) which leaves him facing a life of therapy to learn to walk, even just sit properly and communicate. He has, amongst other things, ataxia (movement disorder), dysphagia (difficulty co-ordinating swallowing), a slow brain wave pattern (encetholopathy), severe complex life threatening epilepsy that puts him in hospital every couple of weeks and even intensive care on life support, laryngomalacia and low muscle tone everywhere leaving him with breathing and oxygen issues and general issues doing things we take for granted.

I have the utmost respect for William's parents, Andrew & Emma, they show such incredible resilience and strength always putting on a brave face despite the daily difficulties they face. William's condition means that he faces lifelong therapy and will need specialist equipment to assist him as well as possible home adaptations.

This run is going to be difficult and I will no doubt go through some dark times but it will only be a fraction of what Andrew & Emma go through except they do it with a smile on their faces. I am aiming to run 100 miles (more if i can) so please get behind me to help raise as much as possible for William - #100milesforWilliam

    Thanks

    Marc

Hi everyone, to say I am grateful for all your support would be an understatement! I was so disappointed that I didn’t manage to run 100miles but that was quickly overshadowed by the fact that I was able to raise a substantial amount to support William’s treatment. With your help we have raised well over the target of £2,000 and all this has now been transferred to William’s treatment fund. Thank you again so much, I have been overwhelmed by the support & generousity you have all shown. Marc

I cannot begin to thank you all enough, your support has been immense and although I am extremely gutted I didn't reach my goal of running 100 miles, I did smash the target of raising £2,000! The disappointment of not running 100 miles pales in comparison to the joy of being able to help William and his family, which I could not have done if it weren't for your kindness and generosity. Thanks again, Marc

Sadly I have had to call it a day early & didn’t hit my 100 mile target! I ran into the night & after ticking over 12 laps (67miles / 108k) the plan was to rest & take on the remaining 52k in the morning. However I woke up with a very painful knee which at first I couldn’t straighten and despite my best efforts to get going again, the body was just said no!...Gutted not to have been able to push through for the 100miles but I am so grateful for all the support & very generous donations!
