Story
Marie was born with cerebral palsy and although she can get around at home with a frame, she uses a wheelchair when out and about. She has overcome many obstacles in her life to become independent. Marie’s sunny disposition makes her a popular member of the community, she always has time for a friend in need. In the last few years, Marie has not been well enough to work but she gives her time every week as a volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau and at Bedworth Disabled Swimming Club. For many years Marie has been the swimming club’s treasurer and she regularly raises funds for the club and organises a gala in memory of her beloved mum. The club is an asset to the Nuneaton and Bedworth community giving disabled swimmers a chance to meet with friends each week, perfect their sport and provide support to their families.
Life has been a little bit harder for Marie recently following a diagnosis of arthritis in her lower back which causes her pain but also affects her ability to use her manual wheelchair. Her diagnosis coincided with a repair to her electric wheelchair. There is a mechanical fault with the motor in the right hand wheel, which the insurance does not cover and is expensive to fix.
Thanks to the CAB she has secured a grant for £500 but needs to raise more to get her on the move again. Help us to give something back to Marie and help her to regain her independence.

4 years agoI’ve got my wheelchair back. Thank you to everyone for their kind donations and support. I couldn’t have achieved this without your help. When I reluctantly set up my crowdfunding page, I never expected it to get such an amazing & positive response, from everybody’s kind donations & shares, to people offering me spare wheelchairs or to see if they could repair the broken wheel. It’s been truly overwhelming and I’m so grateful to you all, after what has been a difficult few months, I feel like I have my independence back again.Thank you so much.

4 years agoJust wanted to let everyone know that now I have reached my target, the part I need for the repair to my wheelchair has been ordered and should arrive in a couple of weeks. It won’t be long until I’m mobile again! Thank you all so much. I couldn’t have achieved this without your support and I’m truly grateful. I’ll keep you all updated! Marie xx

I have been Marie’s friend and neighbour since 2006. I am 70 with Arthritis. I really feel for Marie she is such a lovely young lady it’s a shame to see her struggle so much. She deserves so much, although she struggles. I can’t think of a more deserving person then her.
