Weʼve raised £1,175 to dedicate a bench in Primrose Hill in Margaret’s memory

Funded on Wednesday, 15th May 2019

    Story

Margaret Leibbrandt lived in Primrose Hill for over 30 years. She loved the area and especially the view of Primrose Hill from her window. For those who knew her, she had a great love of writing. She often said she felt like she was actually talking to the person she was writing to! We wonder how many of these conversations she had over the years! She will also be fondly remembered for the many quaint sketches she drew of people and animals.

We would love to dedicate a bench in Chalcot Square, Primrose Hill in her memory. She loved this part of Primrose Hill, and would have loved others to take time to read a book, write a card or just enjoy watching the world go by.

£1500 is the amount set by Camden council for a commemorative bench. The benches are traditionally styled heavy duty park benches and will include a stainless steel plaque which we will dedicate to Margaret. Further information to follow.

Many thanks for your kind donations towards the bench in Margaret's memory. We're pleased to let you know that we reached our target thanks to a generous donation after the fundraising page closed, and the application is now with the council. It is expected to take approx.10-12 weeks to be processed and for the bench to be installed in Chalcot Square gardens. We plan to arrange a dedication once the bench is in place and will be in touch regarding this should you wish to join us. With best wishes, Louisa, Catherine and family

I knew Margaret c.25 years ago when she did my filing. After she moved to Oldfields I saw her around the shops in Regent's Park Road and we always said hullo. A bench would be a lovely memorial.

I was intrigued and puzzled by her rapid marathons around Primrose HIll over the years but there was something dignified and beautiful about her. A bench is a worthy dedication.
