Story

We took over the care of Alf 6 months ago after our friend (his owner) said she would re-home him following the birth of her new baby as she could no longer cope. He had been her loyal family pet for 12 years. Our last dog died a couple of years ago and we were too heartbroken to even consider having a new dog. My life had also changed due to a change of job and I couldn't really afford all the associated costs. However, we equally couldn't bare to think of Alfie ending up in a rescue centre at his age knowing he had little chance of finding a loving family. With this in mind, we offered to take him in the short term to give her a break. 6 months on he is still with us and my friend shows no sign of wanting him back. We wouldn't let her have him now anyway. He has our hearts. He is well fed and cared for, he also has insurance. Unfortunately, he has had problems with his teeth due to poor dental care and has had extractions in the past. Last month he had a terrible abscess and needed anti-biotics and pain relief. The vet said he needs his teeth cleaned and at least another couple of extractions at around £400 included blood tests etc. Dental bills are not included in his insurance. When I had dogs, I always saved a little each month for such emergencies but us having Alf rather came out of the blue. We are hoping to raise enough for his bill and to afford for me to take a day or two off work to look after him afterwards.
Please help us to help look after this dear old boy in the last years of his life. He really is so sweet and loving and doesn't deserve any of what has happened to him. Any help will be so gratefully received. Thank you.
