Story
Tess is my friend Jason's dog. She is a typical Labrador in so many ways. She is loving, loyal and eager, but with a slightly stubborn streak. However, her nature is very open, she wants to greet other dogs, is very inquisitive and thinks everyone is her friend. She absolutely loves it when she pleases Jason. Everyone locally that knows Tess has a great deal of affection for her; in fact dare I say there is a groundswell of love for her. That is testament to Tess’ nature and love of people. She has not got a mean bone in her body.
Tess' problems started when she was 2 yrs old as she developed persistent lameness. Over time her elbow dysplasia has become grade 4 and 5 on both elbows. The worst score is a grade 5. Her pain relief is not now working properly for her. She is very stoic and will not complain, although she shows definite signs of pain.
On 20 February Jason took Tess back to Prof Fitzpatrick (The Supervet on tv) for results of the arthroscopy prior to surgery. He gave good and bad news. Prof Fitzpatrick said that Tess' case was the worst case he had ever seen. Surgery would be too risky and her survival rate would be low. He did say that the alternative would be stem cell treatment together with hyaluronic acid and physio and it would be an effective alternative. The cost would be the same.
We just need any help with this, which is why we are only asking for £15,000. One of the problems Tess has is that she cannot take anti-inflammatory medication due to adverse effects when treated previously.
Tess has seen Jason through some very traumatic times recently, both emotionally and financially. She is his strength and stay. If you had a friend in similar circumstances, would you want to help them?
Although we haven't reached the £15,000 target, Jason is looking at a second opinion for Tess. The money raised here will help Tess go forward with her expensive medicine, injections but will also enable Jason to take Tess for more hydrotherapy including the hire of a car to get her to the Uxbridge centre. A huge thank you to all of you.
