Story

Cambodia Expedition

Through Camps International, I have been given this amazing opportunity to go to Cambodia and help the local communities in this beautiful yet one of the least developed countries.

In the summer of 2018, I will be embarking on a 4 week expedition to Cambodia, where I will be doing my bit to help in the development of the local communities, as well as this, my expedition will serve many other purposes.

Cambodia is a small country bordering Thailand, Laos and Vietnam with a small coastline in the Gulf of Thailand. The country is divided into 24 provinces including the capital, Phnom Penh, which is the political, economic and cultural centre of Cambodia."

One of the largest challenges facing Cambodia is still the fact that the older population often lacks education, particularly in the countryside, which suffers from a lack of basic infrastructure. Fear of renewed political instability and corruption within the government discourage foreign investment and delay foreign aid, although there has been significant amounts given over the past 30 years or so, the majority has not ended up where it was originally designated to go.

What Will I Be Doing There?

Whilst in Cambodia, I will be helping the communities with regional issues. Here is a short summary of just some of the things I'll be doing there:

- Building school kitchens: Camps International work to provide schools with facilities such as teacher accommodation and kitchens. The welfare of teachers and students is important to me, with the kitchen often providing the only meal a child will eat that day.

- Building Kindergartens.

- Reforestation programmes aimed at replenishing forests ravaged by commercial deforestation as well as providing communities with crops of their own.

- Beach clean ups: an unimaginable amount of plastics and waste ends up on island shores, we will help collect the rubbish for women groups who turn these into beautiful pieces of jewellery that they can sell!

- Teaching students: In the schools that Camp Cambodia have previously and generously built, I will get the chance to teach the locals English and Maths, basic education that we take for granted in the third world, and that they would not have had the opportunity to get without the help of Camps International.

What Will Your Donations Do?

With your donations, you will be helping me to get to the camp and pay for the equipment and materials needed to do all of these amazing things for the communities in Cambodia. It also means that you will be doing your part in helping those in need and those who are less privileged than you and me.

I will be very grateful for any donation, big or small, as this will be very much appreciated and will help me to accomplish this expedition.

Thank you for your time.
