On the 16th June 2018, a team of us will be doing a 5k run round Greenwich Park to raise money for Young Diabetes Connections.

The Young Diabetes Connections charity was set up in order to improve the resources and experiences we can offer the children and young people in our service. The UK currently has the 5th highest rate of Type 1 diabetes in the world, with 24.5 in 100,000 children aged 0-14 diagnosed every year.

I am one of many who work with these children, young people and their families. We see how the diagnosis of diabetes affect the whole family and impacts on the whole of their life. Parents stop sleeping, children start becoming super aware of what they are eating and extended family feel helpless as they are terrified of doing something wrong. With this money, we will be able to provide informal training sessions for our children and young people, mixing social events with some fun teaching, and look into extra resources for the eam to be able to improve the care provided.
