Story

I am travelling to Madagascar in June for just over a month to volunteer with the charity SKIP (Students for Kids International Projects). SKIP is a UK student-led charity which supports child welfare in communities throughout the developing world with education.

Madagascar is a beautiful country (as we know from the movie), but also a very poor one. 50% of people live on less than 50p per day and only 12% have access to improved sanitation. As always, children are particularly affected. In 2004, 52.8% of under-fives were stunted and 36.8% underweight. 1 in 10 children will die before their 5th birthday.

I will be leading a small volunteer group in the city of Fianar and surrounding rural villages, and we will be teaching children alongside Malagasy university students about basic hygiene, dental health, malaria prevention, sexual health and gender equality.

This is an amazing charity which has a truly positive impact for vulnerable children. Any donation (even £1 would be amazing!) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
