In March 2022 the Broadwater Conservation Society (BCS) was relaunched.

Inspired by the creation of the new Broadwater Path which provides public access along the whole of the north side of the Lake, our mission is to formulate and implement a practical management plan which will protect the Lake and its landscape for the whole community and the natural environment. This management plan will involve dredging, securing the banks, reducing the invasive plants, sensitive care of the arboreal species either side of Broadwater Path and partnering with a responsible local angling club.

This historic mile-long lake, built by the Earl of Lincoln in the 18th century, needs urgent attention to secure its structure and tackle the build up of silt and vegetation along its whole length. My fellow volunteers on the BCS Committee, assisted by small local work parties, are giving their time and efforts to arrest recent critical deterioration.

The 2024/5 Project is to raise awareness of the historical significance of the site, the wildlife to look out for, and the care required to encourage nature to thrive. Elmbridge Borough Council through their Community Infrastructure Levy, has offered the Society an 80% grant towards the design, manufacture and installation of lectern signs made from strong recycled material. BCS needs to raise the remaining funds from those who love the Lake, enjoy walking along the Broadwater Path and wish to see the landscape on the north bank restored. Any surplus will provide equipment to support ongoing volunteer work parties.
