    Story

On the 29th of October, 2021, my dad suddenly passed away.

He was living in Cambodia, working at the Khmer Times, and because of Covid restrictions hadn't seen his wife in nearly two years. The last time I saw him was three years ago. He had been planning on coming back to the UK once borders opened, and was looking forward to retiring in Thailand with his wife.

Dad was a dedicated and brave journalist, clever and funny, and had treasured friends from all over the world. He loved walking and nature, and had some of his happiest times in Oxford where he went to university. When his career took him abroad, 13 years ago, my sister and I missed him greatly.

I would like to mark his passing by walking 100 miles (or 114 to be exact) from Oxford to London, along the Thames Path. This is a walk he did just before I was born, so I would be quite literally following in his footsteps. I'd like to raise money for the John Schofield Trust. This is a cause I think would be very close to his heart, as a charity which seeks to improve social mobility and increase diversity in UK journalism. The charity was set up in memory of John Schofield, a BBC reporter who my dad worked with in his time at Channel 4 Daily.

Any donations in memory of my Dad will go to the charity and will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Hello, I wanted to update that my walk went really well - I reached my 100 mile target and finished in Richmond Park on the 22nd December. It was a wonderful and meaningful experience although my legs definitely struggled at times 😊 We exceeded the £1500 target, thank you so much. I'm so excited to be able to donate the money to such a deserving cause in memory of my Dad.

Hi everyone, Thank you so, so much for all of the donations. I really can’t thank you enough for the generosity, or put into words how much this means to me, and I know my dad would have been so touched. I’ve now planned my walk and will be starting this Friday 17th December from Trinity in Oxford, and hoping to finish in London on Wednesday 22nd December. I’ll be aiming to keep this page updated with my progress and will also be on the @johnschofieldtrust instagram for the week, so do give them a follow if you’re interested. Daisy x
