Story

In June 2022 I shall cycle Lands End to John O'Groats, a total of 962 miles in 10 consecutive days.

You may be asking yourself why?

I am doing this to raise money for Westhaven Community Hospital.

In May 2019 my father passed away due to Cancer. Westhaven Community Hospital were so very kind, supportive and overwhelmingly dedicated to helping us as a family. My father's wish was to be at home for his last days. Westhaven Community Hospital moved mountains to get this achieved and my family will forever be thankful to them for making this happen. It truly meant so much to him, to be at home in Portland where he was so very happy.

I have very fond memories of cycling with my father as I was growing up in Suffolk, whizzing along the country lanes and making a mad dash for home in time for dinner. These memories will forever be with me.

100% of the money raised will go towards a new palliative care suite on the ward. The dedicated suite will offer a private and compassionate space for patients at end of life. The room will provide a homely environment, with kitchenette and access to the garden which is cared for by a wonderful team of volunteers. The room will be equipped so that family members can stay overnight if they wish.

The challenge of cycling the entire length of the country is daunting and I question if I can do this. I will be training a lot to enable myself to complete this epic route, the more I train the better equipped I shall be.

This is in honour of of my father, Ray.
