I have been offered a place to study a PGCE as a Secondary English Teacher in September and need to secure a loan from Student Finance to cover the fees. I have been approved for this loan except for an outstanding amount from a previous student loan that I am still paying off.

I completed my English Language and Literature BA Hons by studying full-time whilst working full-time as an unqualified teacher in a Primary School. During the last year of study, lengthy and unexpected court expenses meant that the repayments had to be reduced. Until £2500 is cleared I am unable to progress with my career.

In Primary Education, I teach English as an Additional Language, and as a member of the Reading Team, my work has centred around building literacy skills and spearheading the Reading for Pleasure initiative in the school. This has led me towards wanting to focus solely on teaching English and when the opportunity arose to do so in Secondary schools, I took it without realising the barrier that lay before me. The money raised would enable me to pursue this passion and continue to engender a love of literature in pupils.
