Story

So I've had my stupidest idea yet.

I ran my first ever 10k, got carried away with myself and have now signed up for a half marathon in September. I know. What am I playing at?

As most of you know, I am type 1 diabetic, and it's a huge challenge for me to do something like this, as I could have a hypo (or numerous hypos) when taking part and end up in a pile at the side of the road, or the hospital. But whatever, I've paid my entry fee. It's too late now.

As I'm not doing this just for the fun of it (only nutjobs run half marathons for fun) I have decided to raise money while I'm at it. Jamie and I went on holiday to Sri Lanka in March, and we got to see a project my Uncle Buck (Bob Cook) is working on. He's doing his best Mother Theresea act over there - and building houses for people who are currently living in poor slum conditions, behind the local market place. Many of the kids here are orphans, they don't have access to electricity and the only water is a shared, communal water tap (which was put in recently). Bob, along with others are helping to build new houses, one by one, for each family living there.

Although on paper these families have nothing, they are so happy, friendly and welcoming. I want to raise a bit of cash to send over to help build another house. It only costs £600 to build one full house, and a further £300 to put electricity in it. This would be life changing for these kind, hardworking Sri Lankan families.

If you could spare a wee bit of cash - you will really be changing someone's life.. and you'll be motivating me too!
