Story
My Motivation and Inspiration
With a sister who has gone through breast cancer, a brother who has overcome prostate cancer, having seen my children lose their nan to breast cancer, and now having a very close friend being treated for incurable brain cancer, I know how cancer can have such a terrible affect on people’s lives, and I realise this has to change!
I feel I have to help in this fight against cancer by trying to raise funds for the dedicated research undertaken by two amazing charities. Firstly ‘Brainstorm’, a charity who are focused on the research and surgical treatment of brain tumours. I also want to support the fantastic lifesaving work undertaken by ‘Cancer Research UK’ and I will be dividing all donations equally between these two charities.
The Challenge
Having run the Swindon People’s Marathon for a hospital charity with four of my closest friends in 1988, I think it is time to put the surgeon’s scrubs back on and get the running shoes back out.
On Saturday 4th May, I will be taking part in the Swindon 10K ‘Race for Life’ at Lydiard Park. I am then aiming to complete the 26.2 mile course (42.2km) of the first ever Swindon People’s Marathon held in 1982. I hope to complete the total 52.2km challenge by running/walking both courses on the same day, and in recognition of the incredible work the medical staff do at Brainstorm and Cancer Research UK, I will be wearing the surgeon’s scrubs for one more time!
