Half a million correct answers on an online quiz site is our goal, and for that time consuming and weighty proposition we hope to raise an additional £500 (£1 for every 1,000 questions) to be donated to CARE International and it’s Lend with Care program, with 80% going into the latter. Lend with Care is a non-profit microfinance lender which provides loans for entrepreneurs in developing countries. Although they have a range of business available to invest in, we would focus any money raised in funding farming projects which can provide a sustainable source of income, work and most importantly food for those to whom require it.

But the key thing about Lend with Care is that any money loaned out will eventually be paid back – over anywhere from 6 to 48 months on average – and can then be re-invested in someone else’s project. Giving another person the helping hand they need to lift themselves out of poverty. Of course there is no guaranteed repayment, after all these are high risk loans, but if we assume the money will never be withdrawn then should defaults happen we simply forgive and move onto the next project.

As said, we hope to answer 500,000 question correctly – and raise £1 for every 1,000. We will do this, so it is accountable, on the website FreeRice.com –backed by the United Nations World Food Program – which in itself donates food to the less well off, all by just answering questions and raising ad revenue. Half a million question will lead to the donation of 5 million grains of rice – or roughly 100kg.

There are three ways that I will stay accountable. Firstly I have a public profile on FreeRice.com which will update continually with how many question I have answered correctly. There is a public profile on LendWithCare where you can see all the loans I have issues – and I’m proud to say that I will never withdrawn a penny. So once your donation does in, it stays in and will help people for ever. Lastly on request I can provide all receipts for the 20% of sponsorship donated to CARE International. I will also provide continual updates of my progress and to whom the money goes to!
