Weʼve raised £1,160 to Help Marta get to Happy Startup Summercamp 2018!

    Londra, Regno Unito
Funded on Monday, 10th September 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Hello! Thank you for visiting my campaign.

My name is Marta and I have been offered a place at Happy Startup Summercamp 2018 from 14th to 16th September.

Happy Startup School ( offers a unique methodology towards creative learning and growth. It is a community of purpose-driven people and inspiring change makers. It is a hub for developing ideas, meeting likeminded creatives and getting to know yourself with the support of coaches. During Summercamp weekend I will participate at a series of workshops and talks that will help me developing my thoughts and skills for getting started as a designer maker. This year's camp was selected as one of the top 10 business events in Europe by The Guardian.

I have recently completed my Master's Degree in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts in London, which I entirely funded by myself while having two part-time jobs. While at university I learned about the consequences of fast fashion and I became aware of the importance of consumers choices. I developed my interest for activities related to sustainable innovations, emotionally durable design, circular economy and zero waste. It is my life goal to use my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact as a designer. The most rewarding aspect of being at university was sharing my experiences with a great group of peers and tutors. I learned a lot form them and I believe people I will meet at Summercamp will help me developing my ideas further.

I am an outdoor enthusiast and passionate cyclist, with a drive to create. My dream goal is to design, produce and launch on the market a new multifunctional backpack for carrying daily goods easily while making a good impression and without the necessity of having different accessories for different occasions.

My project is still at an early stage and I strongly believe that Summercamp will be the right place and first step to start working towards its fulfillment. This is the exact moment in my year when I need something to supercharge my efforts. I am working hard to save money for this trip and I will cover some expenses by myself but I still need your help. The funds raised will help me cover the full program costs of £1100 that include:

    - access to all talks, workshops and activities happening across the weekend

    - 2 nights camping in a shared bell tent.

    - daily meals provided by local caterers

    - local transportation

I will collect funds throughout the month of August only. Thanks to Laurence, The Happy Startup School Co-founder, a place for me is on hold until 31st August.

I will be eternally grateful for your support and as a Thank You present:

    - I will share my experience and creative development tips that I will learn during Summercamp. (below £20)

    - I will gift an handmade travel pouch, that you can carry everyday and I will share my experience and creative development tips that I will learn during Summercamp. (above £20)

    - I will make a bespoke large travel pouch for you, personalised with your name or message, and I will share my experience and creative development tips that I will learn during Summercamp. (above £50)

    - I will make a bespoke travel set of 3 pouches for you, personalised with your name and fabric colours of your choice, and I will share my experience and creative development tips that I will learn during Summercamp. (above £100)

This is a very special opportunity that will make a positive impact on my life as a designer. Here is what a participant last year said:

“Summercamp has given me a priceless sense of belonging. The encouragement to believe my ideas are possible, but also the knowledge to know it’s going be really difficult. It’s given me validation for me and my passions, it’s provided me with 150 likeminded and generous friends and supporters. It’s provided access to all the knowledge I don’t yet have, without which it would be easy to give up on the dream. So all that. And as an experience in its own right, its was extraordinary. The euphoria, the affection and the fun made it probably the most amazing weekends I have/will ever have had.” Kevin Rozario-Johnson

A big Thank You for reading my words and for your support!

A special Thank You to Laurence for his patience and trust in my efforts!

Here they are! The first small travel pouches are ready to travel the world and bring colour to your cold winter days! They are made of tarpaulin, a waterproof strong material often used in the automotive industry to make truck covers. Tarp waste is widely recycled by the manufacturers, but the smallest pieces often get dumped in landfill (bad bad bad). I have rescued these tiny offcuts and turned them into new accessories to give them a new life. Directly from the manufacturer to my studio, these tarp pieces do not show any sign of wear.

Nearly a month has gone by since I participated at Summercamp, it was such an inspiring weekend! The right place at the right time. It was an adventure of sharing and openness. Not only a beautiful retreat in the green British country side, but a truly magic moment of reflection and personal growth. I've started understanding the importance of quality over quantity and I am learning to slow down my frantic rhythms. Breathe in, breathe out. Creativity is about knowing who you really are, there is no space for adaptation. Photo by Simon Edwards
