Story

On the 21st of March 2023 Bakewell’s fire appliance was involved in a road traffic collision. The crew were returning back to station after attending a fire call.
The Watch manager, sustained life changing injuries in the collision. She was airlifted to hospital by Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance. This insured she received life-saving treatment quickly not just at the hospital but the incident itself. Thankfully, the other crew members only sustained minor injuries. Nevertheless, this has had a huge impact on not only the crew at Bakewell Station but also within Derbyshire Fire and Rescue.
She is soon to continue her journey and recovery at one of The Fire Fighers charity rehabilitation centres.

This is just one example of the countless times these two charities have provided a tremendous service and it is hoped that this can continue.

So in light of all that, On Sunday, the 15th of October 2023, firefighters Martin McShane from Bolsover fire station and Thomas Bell from Bakewell fire station will be running the Manchester half marathon in full fire kit complete with breathing apparatus to raise money for these two well deserving charities.

"The Air ambulance service is a charity funded organization that does not receive government or lottery funding. The air ambulance gives people the very best chance of survival and recovery"

"The firefighters charity support the mental, physical and social needs of the UK's fire services community, treating each person who comes to us as an individual, working to find an approach that best suits them."
