Hi all, I’ve been struggling how to come to terms with this but my best mate for as long as I can remember, Martin Whiteford has taken really unwell with acute myeloid leukaemia. Myself, my brother and the rest of our mates are obviously absolutely devastated and that’s before we even consider how his fiancé stephanie, mother to his 2 amazing kids, Ava and Harry. His own mum Liz, 2 sisters Kerry and Kayleigh, as well as the rest of the family are coming to terms with it. The shock and devastation this has caused to all of us, as well as everyone else who knows Martin has been so hard to take and try to understand.

AML is a cancer of white blood cells. Acute leukaemia means it progresses quickly and aggressively and also requires treatment straight away which thankfully martin is getting now. He is a in the beatson, which is regarded as the best place in the world getting treatment for his illness. He is now on the road to recovery which is amazing but it’s a long hard road ahead, for everyone but especially him, on his own due to Covid.

2020 has already been an awful year for that vast majority of us, without this horrible illness on top of that. He’s been very unwell the last 6-8 weeks but only this week got his diagnosis and I’m just so relieved that they’ve eventually got to the bottom of what was making him so unwell and he can now get better again.

Martin being a self employed taxi driver has already felt it more than most this year and now also unable to work for the foreseeable future. At the moment we are preparing a sponsored walk, from linwood, where Martin stays out to Luss in Loch Lomond which is roughly 26 miles.
