Story

A Wife, a Mother, a Daughter, a Sister, an Auntie, a friend and a companion to so very many.

Jo Martyr, a woman of admirable strength, inspirational passion and prodigious kindness for others around her. One who has the ability to imprint on your heart so gently, yet to powerfully. Beyond all of Jo's positivity and selflessness during other's ordeals in life, such as our own, has come an utterly devastating diagnosis of both a primary and secondary cancer within her throat. An enormous bout of heartbreaking news that has left Jo and her family of three in complete desperation and confusion.

On Tuesday 19th May, Jo and her husband, Dan, broke the news to their loved ones about the diagnosis so cruelly being forced upon them. Having had to try and make sense of this is proving to be difficult, but having to explain to their 6 year old son has ripped both Jo and Dan to pieces.

Oscar's friend, Laurie, has recently watched his parents and others rally around to help save Oscar's life, but now the Martyr's young boy will be exposed to the traumatic process of cancer damaging his own family unit. The Martyr family have a gruelling road ahead, and it pains us to say there's not much we can do to help, other than to support them through this journey as best we can.

'In the blink of an eye life can be turned upside down'. This is now the Martyr family's reality. The vision of their future has become so painful that looking any further ahead is understandingly too heavy to take on. This is where we come in. Together, can help nurture family time, happiness and foster their quality of life in the here and now. So, we have decided to do our bit by raising funds to create a space that all three of the lovely Martyr's can enjoy. We plan to use this money to design and decorate their garden with a cosy area they can relax in and use as their very own comfort zone during the difficult times ahead. But also, remind the Martyr Family that we are beside them every step of the way.

There is only so much we can do alone, so if at all you can help, whether that be sending cards, different kinds of donations, gifts, a helping hand, outdoor furnishings, or any additional ideas the family will enjoy, please let us know via the 'Hand in Hand for Oscar' page on facebook/Instagram.

We would really love for you guys to be a part of this, sharing the love but even more so, supporting another family to get through!
