    Story

Mary is a young lovely girl who arrived from Brasil in our country in search for a better life. She was born with retinitis pigmentosa, a severe visual impairment which deeply affects her daily life, in that she struggles to carry out some basic tasks, like reading, preparing a meal, and getting around in public places is impossible without a person who leads her.

Mary does not work due to her difficult health condition, does not have any income and does not receive any benefits at all. All her past savings have gone into paying for the application to legalise her current status, and she can't receive any support with housing, income, she is not entitled, too, to a guide dog until her application is accepted , a process which can take up to 6 months.

Her closest people including her mother are away in her home country, with only one member of her family having been able to support her at a basic level so far, who is her sister. While the latter has been able to host her for some time, she cannot provide for Mary anymore because of their tight financial situation and the need to ensure the upkeep of her own children and family.

Additionally, Mary, too, has a 4 year old child, who constitutes to her the only reason to live at the moment. Yes, she is a lone parent. She has so far sought help from all charitable organisations, including social services, which are not able to aid her in no capacity. This sadly adds up to what she has to endure every day.

Having to constantly rely on support to move in town and go shopping, make food, with no concrete and sustainable help from charities, having to care for a little child on a daily basis, facing homelessness very soon, I turn to our community in a last resort to ask for donations so that she can pay accomodation and maintenance for herself and her daughter over the next months until her application is accepted.

Mary wants to lead a normal life, despite her irreversible health condition. She wants a better present and future for her child, and she dreams of studying at the university once everything is resolved. One of her goals is to become a primary school teacher.

If you feel you can help her and her child with any donation, no matter how much, she would be grateful for the rest of her life. Every little helps!
