I am raising much-needed funds for a mosque in a deprived part of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The masjid is situated in Uttar Ananda Nagar, which is close to Badda. The area is not well developed and has a large number of impoverished families. The masjid has been open to worshippers for several years, however over the years the number of worshippers has significantly increased from approx 130 to more than 400/500 now, with a lot of worshippers praying outside the masjid at times. The masjid committee had therefore decided a few months ago to expand the masjid to accommodate the large number of worshippers. The new masjid is planned to be five storey tall and accommodate more than 160 people on each floor. It will continue to provide a morning maktab to children, but will expand this provision to become a full-time Hifz madrasah once the expansion is complete.

The total cost of the masjid expansion is 100 lakh, which is under £100,000, of which 13 lakh has already been raised locally. It is notable to mention also that an elderly couple have given all their life's savings towards the masjid expansion Alhamdulillah. Work has already started on the masjid expansion, however the masjid committee are urgently seeking funds to complete at least the first two floors to be able to accommodate worshippers, who are currently using a large house nearby to conduct five times salah. The first two floors would cost around 40 lakh (under £40,000).
